The short version
Daily Climb is a free word game made by Tate Cutcliffe. It collects only what it needs to run the game, show leaderboards and get better. It doesn't sell your information, and there are no ads in the game.
What Daily Climb collects
- Your profile: your username and your secret emoji, so you can sign in on other devices.
- Your games: the words you play, your points, your times, your streak and your trophies.
- Your device: the kind of device and browser, your time zone, and whether you use the Home Screen app. This keeps your daily on your own local time and helps fix bugs.
- Reminders, if you turn them on: a notification token for your device and the time you chose.
- Feedback you send: your message, with your username and the game version.
- Share pictures: when you share a result, its picture is stored at share.thedailyclimb.com for 30 days so the link works, then deleted.
- Recognizing your phone in another browser: apps like Instagram open links in their own browser, which can't share your sign-in or your progress with Safari or Chrome. So when you play, a scrambled code made from your network address and your device details (type, screen size, language and time zone) is kept at share.thedailyclimb.com for 7 days, together with your username and a one-time sign-in pass if you have one, or today's climb if you don't have a name yet. If the same phone opens the game in another browser or from your Home Screen, it signs you straight in or carries on your climb. The code can't be turned back into your address, and all of it is deleted after 7 days.
- How you found the game: for example a shared link, an invite or an ad, recorded once on your first visit.
- Usage: Google Analytics for Firebase records things like which screens are opened and when a daily is finished. Google may estimate a rough location from your connection.
The game also keeps your progress and settings on your own device, in your browser's storage.
What other players can see
Your username, your results (points, times, and the words you played, shown only to players who have finished that day's puzzle) and your standings on the daily and weekly leaderboards. Choose a username you're happy for others to see.
Who helps run it
- Google Firebase: the game's database, sign-in, analytics and notifications.
- Google reCAPTCHA: checks that requests come from the real game and not a bot. It looks at things like your browser and device. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.
- Cloudflare: share links and pictures, and recognizing your phone in another browser.
- GitHub Pages: hosting the game itself.
They process information only to provide those services.
Your choices
- Turn reminders off at any time from the ☰ menu, or in your device's settings.
- To delete your profile and your results, email support@thedailyclimb.com from any address with your username. It's done within 30 days.
- Questions about your information go to the same address.
Children
Daily Climb isn't directed at children under 13, and doesn't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has made a profile, email support@thedailyclimb.com and it will be removed.
Terms of play
